Seoul & Jeju Day 9: Everland, Gangnam Underground Shopping

Day 9
Summary: Everland > Gangnam Underground Shopping

Theme park day! Wee~

Deciding between Everland or Lotteworld... Hmm...

Lotte World is the biggest and largest indoor theme park in the world, as featured in Guinness World Record. While Everland being the largest theme park in Korea, it is one of the world's best 4 theme park. And we were glad that we have chosen Everland.

First and foremost, a good breakfast to start our day! :)

Everland is located at Gyeonggi-do, out of Seoul city. We took almost 2 hours to reach Everland from Jongno-3 ga. There are 2 ways to reach Everland:

1. Take the subway to Gangnam Station, board bus 5002. Once reach Gyeonggi-do bus station, there is free shuttle bus to Everland which takes 5 minutes. Mind that the journey is bumpy and it could be difficult if you couldn't get a seat on the bus.

2. In April 2013, Everline has opened in Yongin, connecting Everland with the rest of the metro station. This subway addition cuts down travel time and makes it more convenient to travel to Everland. Alight from Jeondae-Everland and you will be able to catch the free shuttle to Everland.

It was a long long ride...

Ticketing upon arrival. The theme park was not too crowded on a weekday. We were so lucky that we got 40% Everland discount coupon from Korea grand sales (not valid anymore unfortunately). However there are many other websites that provide 20% discount coupons for Everland instead of the normal 44,000 won. Check my previous blogpost for the 10 Surviving Tips and Travel Tips to South Korea.

Their ticket price is cheaper than all the theme parks I have been to!! And I got to spend my day in one of the best theme park in the world. Cool right?

Once we enter the park, we were greet by a beautiful park full of TULIPS! STUNNING!

Spring is here!

And their Mascot. Sorry, I didn't get to ask their names... hee...

Most importantly, get yourself a map! To summarize, there are 5 main themes in Everland, namely Global Fair, American Adventure, Magic Land, European Adventure, Zoo-topia. Things to do, eateries, information are all clearly stated in the map.

Everywhere was so picturesque. Cheerful music was played along the street coupled with the beautiful architectural features from all over the world. I especially fall in love with the colorful magic tree. Felt like a little fairy wandering in the wonderland.

First stop, Global Fair! And the first activities we did was K-pop hologram concert with PSY. *scream scream* Everything looked so real... Thumbs up for the interactive activities that made the whole experience even more interesting! *I shall not reveal more*

Hi Do Min-joon! He is just anywhere and everywhere in Korea...

We went for a kiddy's show. The kids there were so excited!!!

Do you know them (the cartoon characters)? He is now the most famous cartoon characters in Korea, Pororo! Born in 2003, Pororo has changed the Korean toy market, surpassed Hello Kitty and Pooh, and holds the leading place in terms of sales since 2008.

There was a sky cruise service connecting Global Fair with Magic Land. We didn't waited long before our turn. Since the queue was not long, me and Jeff got to travel in one cable car of our own! :)

Another picturesque spot, magic land! The surroundings were decorated with different types of flowers, surrounded by Holland-style architecture. There were a number of attractions and rides especially for the children.

We took our lunch at Magic Land while enjoying the beautiful view. The price of the food was reasonable, quality was not bad too!

Out for a tram ride after our lunch. Beautiful field of canola flowers.

The timing was perfect! We managed to catch the Everland parade on our way to European Adventure and it lasted for half an hour. The parade is world class. The floats, costumes and mascots were very colorful and eye catching!

European Adventure is built to imitate the appearances of European town and it is filled with fragrant flowers all year round. There are some interesting attractions for instances China moon and Rotating House. Of all the attraction, T-express is the most popular. T-express being the first wooden coaster and largest in South Korea, is the steepest ride in the world with a top speed of 104km/hr and a 77 degree angle. I can felt an immediate adrenaline rush once hearing that... Not for a weak heart like mine please...

Everland is such a big theme park making it almost impossible to cover all the attractions and rides. The queue is reasonable on a weekday but it may take more than an hour wait for some popular rides. We got to try 2 attractions at European Adventure before proceeding to Zootopia. Just in time for the animal wonder show!

Lost Valley Safari was one of our highlights in Everland. The queue was so long. It took us about one hour wait.

The ride involved a convertible amphibian vehicle that move from water to land. Some animals were roaming freely in Lost Valley. During the ride, we got to get so so close to the giraffes. They almost swallowed our camera!!

It was almost 6pm when we completed the Lost Valley Safari.

Sunset was beautiful in Everland. Isn't it?

The tram ride connecting Zootopia and Global Fair (the entrance). We decided to give it a missed looking at the queue. It would probably take us another 1 hour before we can hop on the ride. Time can be spend more meaningfully right? ;P

We walked our way back, and stopped for some kiddy rides at American Adventure

Not forgetting some nice shots with the ferris wheel.

The buildings around American Adventure were so fairy-tale like. They looked even more beautiful with all the lightings on.

We were almost back to the entrance at Global Fair.

The magic tree was so different from what we saw in the day. Loving it @.@ Everything was just magical.

And finally the escalator bringing us all the way to the main entrance/exit. Good bye Everland.

We took bus 5002 back to Gangnam. *Gangnam style* Gangnam is no different from other parts of Seoul to our opinion. We didn't stay for long. Their underground shopping near the subway however is worth browsing if you would like to do some shopping.

Dinner at a mamak stall at Jongno-3-ga. The scene in mamak was exactly what we saw in Korean dramas... Cool! The ajumma was so friendly that we couldn't resist going back again and again. Please be remindered that dinner at mamak stall in Korea is not cheap!

We ordered sea cucumber and to our horror, they will be serving them RAW!!!

*No sashimi sea cucumber pleassseee*

After trying very hard to explain ourselves, the gentlemen next table who was able to speak fluent english bring across our thought to ajumma. *Thank god*

"We Koreans never ever eat a cooked sea cucumber before haha" said the gentlemen.

The sea cucumber was not 100% cook. *medium rare* But they are right! It tasted so good especially with sesame oil and a pinch of salt. I have never imagine sea cucumber in such a texture and taste!

It was already 10pm. Good night.
